“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” – James 1:5
Knowing exactly how our influence reaches people can be complicated. There can be what we might call “inconsistencies” in our faith. This means we act great but our heart is really far away from God. Perhaps, we want to be closer to God but just feel like we keep messing up. We saw this week that some religious leaders were acting “right” but it was actually making others feel small. We can ask, “How do I know how the Lord wants me to be?”
Take a look at James 1:5-8. We can say we want to be close to Jesus, but oftentimes what we really want is to live our own way. In looking at this passage ask yourself:
- Am I asking the Lord how to be closer to Him?
- Am I really doing some things I want, because I want to?
- Is my loyalty really divided between the world and God?
What does that mean to be divided between the world and God? It means that we may act one way, but if we are honest we sort of pick and choose what things in our lives we will give to God. Are you willing to ask God what kind of music to listen to or movies to watch? Are you willing to ask Him how to be more compassionate? Will you ask Him how to live so that others see you and want to be closer to Him?
Take a few minutes in the space below, or on your note taking app. and write about those things in your life that are hard for you to really trust God “alone” with.
