Peter who was called to follow Jesus to “fish for people” went on to have tremendous influence as he walked with Jesus. (To read a lot about some of this read Acts Chapter 2&3). He made some mistakes along the way, but he kept coming back to the Lord. In Acts 3: 4-7, we meet a man who had never been able to walk, sitting on the side of the road begging for money. This is what happened:
“Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them.”
Think About This . . .
- How do we see here how both Peter & John were becoming “fisher of people?”
- How has Peter’s influence changed since he first met Jesus that day Jesus said, “Follow me?”
- Why was his influence different now?
Peter & John both went on to do amazing things for God this is one small example. Sometimes we can think that what we have to offer God is so small, we don’t affect anyone. Yet, like Peter we may never know what God has for us until we obey His command to follow.
