Jesus and Loving Others
Lesson 2 Devotional 2

“Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.” ⎯ Luke 23:32-34

Jesus taught through His words but He also taught through His actions. Jesus had gone through the agonizing pain of been whipped and beaten before being led to the cross. His pain continued as they nailed Him to a cross and hung Him to die. Despite all that pain He still uttered words asking God to forgive the people for what they did to Him.

Maybe someone is your life seems unlovable because he or she has done something really mean or hateful to you. Your first step to loving that person might be to forgive him or her.

So what’s the next step?

  • Is there an unlovable person in your life that you need to forgive? Is there someone in your life you need to ask for forgiveness?
  • Forgive the person and move on. Put the past behind you and see if you can reestablish a connection with that person.
  • Once you do all the Bible says to do, if the person continues to act in an unlovable way towards you, just continue to pray for them and look for ways to express God’s love whenever possible.
